Wilma Adelmund

Wilma Jean Adelmund, 86, of Gladbrook, IA, died peacefully January 13, 2022 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital. A private celebration of her life will be held in Gladbrook, Iowa. Born on June 3, 1935 in Stout, Iowa, she was the daughter of Verb and Edna (Bolhuis) Syhlman. She attended school and worked on the family farm until she was united in marriage to George Adelmund on September 28, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Reinbeck, Lincoln and finally Gladbrook, where they raised their family and were members of the United Methodist Church. Wilma worked at the grocery store in Gladbrook for more than three decades, and was known by many for her gentle spirit, kindness and welcoming smile. She was a devoted grandma to her six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and granddogs. Cherishing her memory are her three children: Barb (Mike) DeWitt of Gladbrook, Dallas (Lynn) Adelmund of Ankeny, and Donna Case of Marshalltown; sister Lourine Pruis of Grundy Center; grandchildren Dan (Samantha) DeWitt of Gladbrook, Carrie (Chris) Mattson of Cedar Falls, Kelli Smith of Waterloo, Lindsey (Brian) Caputo of Conrad, Darcy Adelmund of Lenexa, KS, and Riley Adelmund of Ankeny; and great grandchildren: Beau, Codi, and Cade DeWitt; Charlie and Jack Mattson; Cole and Avery Smith, and Morgan Caputo as well as many nieces and nephews and life-long friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; parents; a brother, Fred Syhlman; three sisters, Tena Benning, Dorothy Adelmund, and Vernice Valentine; and son-in-law, Kevin Case. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gladbrook United Methodist Church or Gladbrook Fire Department.
