Wilma Ruth Slate, 93, of Marshalltown, died early Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Grandview Heights.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Spilger officiating. Visitation hours will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in Ruths name to Iowa River Hospice. Ph 641-844-1234.Born on August 2, 1914, in Sullivan County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Robert and Emma (Rouse) Shaver. Ruth began her education in the Sullivan County, MO (Pinville) area. Ruth and her family relocated to the New Providence area, where Ruth began her working career cleaning homes and baking. She was employed for a short time at Marshalltown Manufacturing before beginning her 30 years with Kiowa Manufacturing. On May 27, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to Glen Slate. They had 57 wonderful years in the Marshalltown area. Upon retiring, Ruth and Glen enjoyed their golden years at Deer River, Minnesota at their cabin on Deer Lake. Ruth enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, and most of all, family.Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Glen, of Marshalltown; her grandchildren Kenny(Pauline) Lloyd of Union, Vickie(Ron) Engelking of Utah, and Gary(Roxanne) Lloyd of Des Moines; her 8 great-grandchildren; her 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister Connie(Jim) Jelsma of Union, and her brother Gerald(Betty) Shaver of Carthage, MO.She was preceded in death by her parents, her 10 brothers and sisters, and her daughter Frances (Glenney) Lloyd and son-in-law Vernon Lloyd.
