Yvonne Varnum, 74, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Iowa River Hospice House.A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Yvonne received her high school education in Marshalltown and then later attended Marshalltown Community College for two years. On June 8, 1957, she married Gerald Varnum in Nevada, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Mark, Mona, and Marcy. Yvonne worked at the Unemployment Office in Marshalltown and then later worked at Gervich & Sons. Yvonne loved to spend time bowling, playing cards, and reading. She also was an excellent cook and loved to cook. She had many pets throughout the years and loved every one of them.Yvonne is survived by her father Bill Collins of Marshalltown; two children: Mark Varnum of Marshalltown and Mona (Alan) Stanton of Haverhill; two grandchildren: Amber and Ashley Brennecke; three great-grandchildren: Ethan Hanson, Xavier Pierron, and Abigail Genenser; step-brother Gary (Suzy) Collins and other family members and many friends.She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry; mother Alice; her daughter Marcy; and her granddaughter Stephanie.
